EVRT Thanks Residents for Overwhelming Support – and Seeks Your Help Again

The Trustees of the Effingham Village Recreation Trust (EVRT) would like to extend heartfelt thanks to everyone who took part in our recent community survey. We received 510 responses—an incredible show of interest and support.

The most popular element of the proposed improvements was a new inclusive community playground—designed for families and small groups to enjoy together, and to expand the range of outdoor activities available at KGV.

  • Over 75% of respondents said they wanted more and better facilities for families

  • More than half highlighted the need for welcoming spaces for teenagers

  • Two-thirds supported a network of accessible paths to link activity areas

  • Nearly half of all respondents loved everything about the proposed plans

KGV plays a central role in the life of our village. But despite the fact that Effingham’s population has doubled in recent years, Guildford Borough Council has provided no new play or recreation facilities for our growing community. The nearest GBC-funded playground is a six-mile round trip to Kingston Meadows. Even housing developments with direct access to KGV, like Barnes Wallis Close, received no associated funding for recreation.

Without the continued energy and support of local residents, Effingham would not even have a toddler playground.

We are actively engaging with local councillors and our MP, Zoë Franklin, to press for greater investment from GBC. But right now, you can help most by registering your support for the new KGV plans on the Guildford Borough Council Planning Portal.
